Steve Arrington – Feel so real
This is a classic, upbeat 1980’s tune. It is my last Saturday in London in 2011 and I intend to mark it with a bang. This is the kind of song I want as a soundtrack.

This has a classic 70’s sound. The song was first recorded by Shuggie Otis, but this is my favourite version. The original is dreamy and washed out but this is more funky with a disco sound and I think it works great.
Mcfadden and Whitehead – Ain’t no stopping us now
A classic disco is a good way to get in the mood for a night on the tiles. It seems I have posted quite a few disco tunes recently, maybe I have caught Saturday Night Fever. It is quite infectious.
Ain’t no stopping us now. We’re in the groove…
Jean Carne – We’ve got some catching up to do
I seem to be a real Disco mood of late. This is a Philadelphia International classic. It’s a feel good anthem and I thought it a good way to kick September off.
Chic – Good Times
Classic disco. I can’t think of anything that sums the genre up better than this. The reason for posting it now is that I heard a DJ play this on Saturday night, he mixed it into Rapper’s Delight by the Sugarhill Gang. It was basic but effective, almost like being there the first time around.
Fox the fox – Precious little diamond
This is a strange one. Fox the fox are obscure, Dutch, one hit wonders from the 1980’s. However, I have heard this played by 3 DJ’s in the past month. It is great, with a classic 80’s sound, but a rather strange track to be undergoing a revival.
Also, a classic 80’s video here. A little reminscent of this gem.
This is taken from Here lies love, a concept album made in collaboration between Fatboy Slim and David Byrne (of Talking Heads). The album charts the rise and fall of Imelda Marcos, who was first lady of the Phillipines. As I previously mentioned, I am a sucker for songs that double as history lessons or more generally ones that have an interesting concept that makes me think.
The whole album is really stimulating and great in places. It is kind of an opera rapped up in sultry disco beats and features lots of great guest vocals, such as the one here from Charmaine Clamor.
The Crusaders – Street Life
I thought it was about time I posted a Disco classic. I love this, it is so smooth and funky and the vocal, courtesy of Disco-royalty Randy Crawford (see picture below, thank you Wikipedia), is truely amazing.
I listen to this and wonder why people were so anti-disco back in 80’s. I can’t think of anything more fun that giving it stacks on a dancefloor to a tune like this.
Odyssey – Going back to my roots
A DJ played this track a while ago when I was out and about. It is a dance classic, deliciously cheesy and retro. An added bonus is the great video here.
The O’Jays – Love Train
I was at a wedding party last night – the music was so fun. Throwing some shapes to cheesy music surrounded by people in high spirits, what could be better?
I wanted to post something of that ilk and this came to mind. Get on board…
