The Stranglers – Walk On By

CjK Guest Post – Summer Cover #2

Punk was at its height in 1978 when The Stranglers released the  ‘Black and White‘ album. Anarchy was the order of the day. Here the Stranglers were thumbing there noses at Burt Bacharach and Hal David syrupy love songs, and turned it into a guitar driven rant, with an admittedly a long slightly indulgent solo.

Of course they also recorded ‘Golden Brown’ a syrupy love song to heroin. It is not recorded what Burt Bacharach made of this version but I suspect its not going into his desert island discs…

The Heptones* – We Are In The Mood & Dub

This mellow, reggae number, from iconic Jamaican band The Heptones, has been running about my mind over the past few weeks. The vocals are so smooth, they fit the vibe perfectly. Also, the track is ideal listening for a lazy, sunny Sunday.

The Cure* – Boys don’t cry

This song seems to have been following me around recently. The guitar riff is utterly infectious. It is also a slight surprise to me that The Cure haven’t featured in my 365 days journey until now.

David Bowie – Sound and Vision

I heard this last week and it reminded me that it’s been too long since I posted some classic David Bowie. It is taken from 1977’s Low and I just love its languid sound.
