My guilty pleasures really seem to revolve around late-70’s/early -80’s funk at the moment. I guess it’s a rich era in which to delve.
This gem is taken from girl group High Inergy’s 1977 debut album Turnin’ On.

This is my idea of weekend music! Some classic early 80’s funk from LA band Dynasty. It is taken from their 1981 album The Second Adventure.

A friend asked me to put together a mix of songs for his wedding party in a couple of months. This is something of a dream task for me because it means I get to listen to lots of cheesy songs and not feel “guilty” about it.
As part of this research I came across this track from American singer Cyndi Lauper and was reminded about what a great pop song it is.

I heard this for the first time in ages a couple of days ago. I grew really tired of it after hearing it way too much after it’s 2006 release. But hearing it afresh I remembered it’s just a great pop tune with classic Scandinavian sound.
It is taken from Peter, Bjorn and John’s 2006 album Writer’s Block.

This is a rarity on 365 days in that I wanted to post it more for the video than the track. I quite enjoyed the song, it’s rather relentless and full of energy but I was transfixed by the video. It features a phenomena called Double Dutch which was a new one to me and perfectly suits the beat.
DJ Fresh is an English Drum and Bass producer.

The guys over at Far From Cyan posted this track from R&B Supergroup Lucy Pearl a couple of weeks back. It reminded me of being a teenager and what a great album they made.

I came across this on my random travels on YouTube this week and whilst it’s a little cheesy, I rather enjoyed it.
It is taken from Portland, OR band Pink Martini’s 2007 album of the same name.

Even though this is rather pop-centric and John Newman’s vocal style feels a little contrived, this track has been stuck in my head all week. It’s a rather feel-good track to hum along to.
