I discovered Icelandic singer Emilíana Torrini while listening to Tom Ravenscroft’s excellent BBC 6music show over the weekend.
This track is taken from her recently released album Tookah and has that classic Scandinavian-pop sound; One part cool and reserved, one part hypnotic and darkly memerising.

As I mentioned yesterday, I have been listening to The Rhythm of The Saints a lot of late. It is a spectacular album. I stumbled across this video, for the lead single from the album and rather enjoyed it, particularly the purity of the drummers, who I think are members of the Afro-Brazilian band Olodum.

I came across this track, by American singer Neko Case, on Pitchfork this week. While it isn’t the type of thing that gets my pulse racing (it is just a little tame perhaps) it has been playing on repeat since. It’s funny how that can happen sometimes.
It is taken from her wonderfully titled upcoming album The Worse Things Get, The Harder I Fight, The Harder I Fight, The More I Love You.

I heard this on the radio earlier and was reminded of what a great track it is. I saw Bob Dylan play in 2001 at Kilkenny (I really can’t believe it was that long ago). It was one of the best gigs I have ever been to. He really knows how to put a backing band together. Also, with Elvis Costello supporting, it was a pretty stellar line up.
Bob Dylan (an all time favourite pic of mine):

This is taken from Kate Bush’s spectacular 2005 album Aerial. She is a perennial favourite of mine.
