Dee Lite* – Groove is in the heart
At a really old friend’s wedding today so I wanted to post something that I might hear later on. This is classic wedding reception fodder…

Kate Bush – Running up that hill
No special reason for posting this today other than it has been far too long since I posted any Kate Bush. What a hero!
The game was a bit of a let down yesterday, I’ll leave it at that. I still managed to have a very enjoyable day though.

Huey Lewis and The News* – The power of love (GPF)
This is just a classic 80’s track. I stumbled across this video on the internet a few weeks ago and it reminded me of this. Nike are so clever. I don’t think Kevin Durant should give up his day job yet though!
I was also struck by the cyclical nature of style. If I was to go out wearing a pair of Nike high tops and a red body warmer I would probably look pretty fly, Marty McFly in fact.
Don’t need money, don’t take fame, don’t need no credit card to ride this train…

Lovebug Starski* – Say what you want to say (Rory McDermott guest post)
I often wondered what the crew of the Starship Enterprise listened to when they shook off their nylon suits on the dancefloor bridge/deck. Otherworldly, 80’s futuristic.
I can’t prove it but I am pretty confidant the guy with the funny mangled forehead produced this track somewhere deep in outer space with one eye on the rap culture on planet earth.
This song is progressive. Electronica and rap over a weeping guitar. Light years; I’m not sure, but at least 30 years ahead of The XX etc.
The Police – Every little thing she does is magic
This was my karaoke tune at Bloomsbuy Lanes last night. Fun times. I was worried that I was going to get arrested for crimes against people’s ears. Another point to note is that Come on Eileen by Dexy’s is much more difficult that I imagined!
Every little thing she does is magic!…

The Pretenders* – Don’t get me wrong
Apologies for the delayed posts. I got side tracked by a hectic sojourn to London. Didn’t have time to blog in between socialising, work and catching up with some old buddies.
This is fun and upbeat and put a spring in my step when I heard it while walking past a St.Paul’s Cathedral which was bathed in Autumnal sunshine earlier.
Don’t get me wrong…

Robbie Robertson* – Somewhere down the crazy river
While this is not fresh in the sense of being released recently or by an unknown artist, it is fresh in the sense I heard it for the first time today.
This is taken from Canadian icon Robbie Robertson (good name) of The Band fame’s eponymous debut solo album which was released in 1987 and it has a classic 80’s sound. Not to mention some classic 80’s style on display in the video! Hello mullet…

Talking Heads – Road to nowhere
This seems like appropriate music to soundtrack a foreign trip to a stag do…
Also, David Byrne (lead singer) has a new book out that looks interesting and that I certainly mean to check out when I get a second.

Frankie goes to Hollywood* – Relax (don’t do it) | (GPF)
I heard this played during the opening ceremony of the Olympics and it reminded my (guiltily) about how much I enjoyed it. I think it is the relentless bass that does it for me. Pretty classic 80’s video here too. White gloves!!

Spandau Ballet – Gold (GPF)
Short post at the end of a long day and week.
Had to be this right? A special olympic-themed guilty pleasure Friday. I hope you are enjoying the games as much as I am. Here’s to Team GB bringing home a few more golds.
