I don’t know too much about Portland band Shy Girls having discovered them very recently but I have very much enjoyed their smooth 90’s R’n’B influenced sound.

I am in a Whitney mood today, no special reason. I am trying not to get too sad when I think about what a loss that she is. Her voice is still one of the finest I have ever heard.
This, of course, is taken from the soundtrack of the classic 1992 movie The Bodyguard.
Whitney:
For me, this is perfect Saturday music. It makes me want to move…
It is taken from the late, great Micheal Jackson’s classic 1982 album Thriller, which has to one of the greatest records ever made. The video is rather spectacular too, showcasing Jackson at the height of his powers.
Michael Jackson:
It felt like time I posted some Real Estate and their mellow, washed out sound is perfect for a Monday morning. This track is taken off their excellent 2011 album Days.
They have been one of my best finds during my blogging odyssey and Out of Tune remains one of my favourite tracks from the last few years.
Real Estate:
I had great fun doing karaoke last night at a friend’s birthday party. I trotted out my old favourite by The Police but was followed by this number by Elvis. I was rather shown up if I am being honest, this number has a much higher singalong factor.
Key rule about Karaoke – crowd participation is king!
Elvis:
This is perhaps my guiltiest of guilty pleasures. But it feels good to finally get it off my chest. The only thing I can say in my defence is that it takes me back to a time before I knew any better.
Also, how perfectly 90’s is the video? Rollerblading! Remember when that was a thing?

It has been too long since I posted something jangly. Belfast band Sea Pinks provide the guitars today. The track is perhaps a little insubstantial but it’s sunny and rather fun which, every once in a while, is enough to catch my ear.

I stumbled across Melbourne band Hiatus Kaiyote pretty recently. I don’t know too much about them but I really enjoyed this track and video, they both have a real warmth and freshness.

This breezy number by London band Stereolab is perfect Sunday listening. It is taken from their 1997 album Dots and Loops. I think the video is rather charming too, retro if somewhat esoteric it fits the track perfectly.
