Diddy – Dirty Money* – Ass on the floor (GPF)

This is defiant. I guess that is the point of posting “guilty pleasures” on Fridays. I know this is interminably naff but it still inexplicably moves me.

Them haters can’t tell you nothing…

Sunshine Anderson* – Heard it all before

This is sassy. Plain and simple.

I am aware it is a little naff, however I heard it today and it made me think of happy school days before I knew any better. I am a real sucker for music from this era.

What were you thinking? Bringing her into our home, in our bed! You must have fell and bumped your head…

Shola Ama* – You might need somebody

In a humorous moment on Saturday we got a taxi to the stadium before the game. I asked the driver if he had any music he could play. He said “no worries boss, look in the glove compartment”. I found a stash of CD’s – 9 of Pakistani music and the single version of this! An interesting selection to say the least.

It is a little saccharine but I have to confess all 4 of us were humming the tune until we heard Ireland’s call before the start of the game.

Craft Spells* – Still left with me (NAT)

This is 4 minutes of pop perfection. Regardless of how pretentious and jaded I become I will always be an utter sucker for that. This pulls off the neat trick of being at once urgent yet languid at the same time. The melody and heavenly synth remind me a little of a more upbeat version of The Drums or New Order.

These guys are from Stockton, CA. I suspect it is significantly nicer than Stockton-on-Tees which strangely came up during the course of my manic and meandering conversation on Saturday.

Bran Van 3000* – Drinking in LA

This takes me back! I remember it from innocent school days and Rolling Rock adverts. It is infectious and funky and I remember finding the slightly off beat sound intriguing even back then when I didn’t have any idea what music meant.

Bran Van 3000 had the honour of featuring the final recording of legend (and hero of mine) Curtis Mayfield before his death on their single Astounded. There, I just hit you with some knowledge!

What the hell am I doing drinking in LA at 26?….

This is for a supporter and follower of the blog. You know who you are. Cheers for the encouragement, even if it is indirect.

Real Estate – Dumb Luck

This is nice and mellow, which is very welcome after a busy week. March 2012 is turning out to be a busy little month for me.

I discovered Real Estate last year. Their sunny, chilled out sound is very pleasing. Also, after posting The Beach Boys earlier in the week I can hear a little of them in this.

Peasant* – The flask (NAT)

I don’t know a great deal about this guy but have been enjoying this tune very much recently. It is breezy and has a low-fi sound that reminds me a little of Best Coast.

It also marks artist number 400 in my meandering blogging voyage. Look out for a post over the weekend with the 10 freshest artists I have stumbled across so far. Thanks for sticking with me.

College featuring Electric Youth* – A real hero

This is taken from the soundtrack of the movie Drive. I had been meaning to check it out for ages as several buddies had referred to it glowingly. I finally got round to it a couple of weeks ago and really enjoyed it. Now I just need to see the movie…

I like the mellow vibe here and the classic, 80’s sound.

TLC* – No Scrubs (GPF)

I am not too proud of my affection for this song but I guess that’s the name of the game on Fridays. In my defence when I first heard it I wasn’t old enough to know better. In fairness it has stood the test of time pretty well. Apart perhaps for the ridiculous, OTT video!

Also, TLC must be an all-time great name for a modern R’n’B group.

RIP Left-Eye

Funeral Suits* – All those friendly people

I was sitting beside the singer of this band at a wedding in December. When he told me he was in a band but I assumed they were small time. I was surprised to hear them played on 6music this week. Good for them.

The track is quite fun too. It’s simple, youthful and easy on the ear. Slightly strange video though, a little reminscent of Miami Horror.
