Tom Ravenscroft played this track, by New Zealand’s Connan Mockasin, a couple of weeks ago and it has been stuck in my head since. I love it’s smooth and hypnotic, if rather offbeat sound.

It has been too long since I posted something jangly. Belfast band Sea Pinks provide the guitars today. The track is perhaps a little insubstantial but it’s sunny and rather fun which, every once in a while, is enough to catch my ear.

I came across British singer Dev Hynes AKA Blood Orange on Pitchfork earlier in the week. While I quite enjoyed the track with it’s has a breathless 90’s R’n’B vibe I really liked the video. It reminded me a little of Solange’s classic from last year.

This is day number 1000 of blogging!! Thanks for sticking with me, the journey has been long and rather meandering but I hope that you might have discovered something unexpected along the way. I have really enjoyed sharing it with you.
It has taken me to some strange and surprising places but all in all it’s been an enriching experience. I hopefully have at least a few more posts in me yet…
This track is, I suppose, typical of the blog thus far. It is random and a little obscure but I heard it on the radio (Tom Ravenscroft’s show part of a Mood Rings guest mix) and it has been stuck in my head since.
A.R. Kane were a Dream pop band formed in the 80’s and this was originally released in 1992 is featured on a soon to be released retrospective of their work.

I discovered Icelandic singer Emilíana Torrini while listening to Tom Ravenscroft’s excellent BBC 6music show over the weekend.
This track is taken from her recently released album Tookah and has that classic Scandinavian-pop sound; One part cool and reserved, one part hypnotic and darkly memerising.

This is so damn catchy! I have been unable to get it out of my mind all week. It is taken from A$AP Ferg’s recently released album Trap Lord. Ferg is part of the Harlem collective A$AP Mob which also includes the seemingly ubiquitous A$AP Rocky.
I also can’t help but be reminded of Bone Thugs N Harmony’s Crossroads, which is (mostly) a good thing.

I stumbled across this track while meandering through YouTube links earlier in the week. It is taken from Parisian DJ (or “Synth Magician” accoring to RA) dÉbruit’s 2009 EP Spatio Temporel.
I really love it’s contemporary take on that classic world music sound.

This is a track from Danish band Boho Dancer, who I discovered via the Guardian Music Blog’s new band of the day feature.
I find the rather windswept video to be fitting for the track, which mercifully isn’t a Beach Boys cover.

I came across this track, by American singer Neko Case, on Pitchfork this week. While it isn’t the type of thing that gets my pulse racing (it is just a little tame perhaps) it has been playing on repeat since. It’s funny how that can happen sometimes.
It is taken from her wonderfully titled upcoming album The Worse Things Get, The Harder I Fight, The Harder I Fight, The More I Love You.

I don’t know too much about rising L.A. singer Banks, having discovered her earlier in the week via the Guardian’s New band of the day series. The word that comes to mind here is sultry and it’s certainly very catchy. Is she an American version of Jessie Ware?
