I love this! It’s so energetic and urgent. It also has a wonderful 80’s synth vibe, which is just in my wheelhouse. It makes me want to move.
I have already decided that it’s going to be my weekend anthem.

Aesop Rock* – Odessa featuring Dose One (NAT)
2012 has been a year where my affection for hip hop has undergone a big rennaisance. If I am honest I had just about given up on the genre. So it has been very refreshing to stumble across several artists which have gotten me excited.
Aesop Rock is a NYC rapper currently based in San Francisco, and this is taken from his deubt EP Appleseed which was released in 1999.

Shlohmo* – The way U do
I persevered today and this is being written via my phone so please forgive my brevity!
I first heard of this guy through a remix of the LOL Boys track I posted last week. I really like it’s mellow, washed out sound.

LOL Boys* – Changes featuring Heart streets (NAT)
This is probably the track I have listened to most since I moved back to Ireland a couple of weeks ago. There is just something hypnotic and engaging about the vocal. I can’t quite put my finger on it but I have very much enjoyed it.
LOL Boys are a duo based in Los Angles by way go Montreal. They have quite an interesting name. It is very modern, right? An interesting statement on the mobile phone/internet fuelled rise of abbreviations.

The Drum* – /SYS
I first heard about Chicago based duo The Drum when Lamin Fofana (a DJ who’s radio show on WFMU I very much enjoy) tweeted about them. I love this track’s sound. It sounds like it’s from another planet, in a really good way.
I have a fun day of house hunting in Dublin ahead of me tomorrow. Hopefully by the time tomorrow’s post is written I will have found somewhere to live. Perhaps I will be in the mood for something cheesy to celebrate!
In other news, I saw The Dark Knight rises tonight. It has been a while since I have gotten excited about a seeing movie and it certainly lived up to my expectations. I have to start wearing more black…

Alexander Holland* – The Best of Me (NAT)
Orange Juice* – Rip it up (NAT)
This is not strictly speaking a new band (although to my surprise I haven’t posted OJ before). It just felt appropriate to post something orange today. The 12th of July will forever make me think of home, regardless of far from it I am (and despite how banal things in Ardoyne may appear this evening).
This track is one of my very favourites from the 80’s, probably in my top 5 which is very rarefied air. Orange Juice are one in a long line of richly-talented Glasgow bands and they brought the fantastic Edwyn Collins (who I posted last year) to prominence. Pretty special video here too.

Kotki Dwa* – Poison (NAT)
Grimes* – Genesis (NAT)
Montreal artist Grimes is another whom I have heard much about so far in 2012, and she has featured prominently in the “Best of so far…” lists I have been reading recently as the half-year approaches.
She kind of reminds me of other one-woman troubadours tUnE-yArDs and Grouper who were favourites from last year. I really like this track too, there is something in the synth that is delightfully 80’s.
