Moodymann* – The thief that stole my sad days…Ya blessin’ me (NAT)

Moodymann is a DJ from Detroit, Michigan who makes thoroughly interesting music. It mashes up genres and styles to pleasing effect. It is mostly quite mellow and good to listen to while relaxing.

I like this tune particularly for the choice samples it contains. It reminds me a little in that regard of a Fatboy Slim song I used to love.

Mr Fingers – Can you feel it?

I listened to an interview with DJ Frankie Knuckles recently. He talked about the origins of House music in Chicago in the late 70’s and early 80’s. Apparently the genre was named for the Warehouse club that he was DJing in at the time. Quite a claim to fame!

This is one of the early house tunes that came out of Chicago during this period. I think it’s great. The sample, which appears to be some kind of corrupted version of Martin Luther King, gives the song an imploring urgency that I think is great. I can barely imagine the sheer volume of shapes that must have been thrown to this song over the years.

You may be black, you may be white, you may be Jew or Gentile. It don’t make a difference in OUR house…

Benoit and Sergio – Walk and Talk

Haven’t been able to stop listening to this for the past 3 days. It is completely hypnotic.

Tiga described this during his 6mix as “My favourite song in the world. Ever.” Nothing like a bit of hyperbole. But at the moment I am struggling to think of anything I like more (or in fact of any other song at all).
