Herman Dune – Tell me something I don’t know

I wanted to post something fresh today after a few days of classic tunes. This song is interesting for having style icon Don Draper (Jon Hamm) in the video. I wish I could be 1% as cool as him.

I also always find something quaint and charming about the slightly stilted way that foreign (Herman Dune are French) bands sing in English. For this phenomenon, also see Phoenix and Napoleon.

Delorean – Stay Close

This is another uplifting dance tune by a band with a name that is linked to my home land. Perhaps there is a trend to be started? Can anyone suggest some Belfast-centric named bands? I will put my mind to it.

The track is a euphoric slice of summer and it sped my journey home this evening. I also love the fact it was released on Mushroom Pillow Records.

Family Fodder – Savoir Faire

Solemnity is overrated. No matter how hard I try it is impossible to be serious all the time. This was never more true than when I first heard this song.

It was a perfect track this week as spring arrived to London. There is something irresistible about a perfect pop song and to my ears this comes pretty close.

Bjork – All is full of love

I was always going to post Bjork sooner or later. I have an almost irrational affection for her music, which I find to be beautiful and mesmerising. This is from what is probably my favourite of her albums Homogenic.

In addition, this is a great video, fitting of Bjork’s idiosyncratic personality.

Phoenix – Too Young

Phoenix are impish Parisian hipsters who make maddeningly infectious tunes. What’s not to like? I saw these guys play in Camden about a year ago and they were great. Along with Doves it was one of the best visual shows I have ever seen – subtle yet arresting. And the music was also pretty good.

Napoleon – Cleopatra

I seem to have a weakness for Scandinavian pop which began with Bjork and hasn’t really stopped since. Relentlessly upbeat, perhaps my most hummed and whistled song of 2010.
