DJ Shadow – Midnight in a perfect world

Glastonbury Festival is on this weekend so I thought I would post 3 songs by artists playing there. DJ Shadow is a pioneer of this genre of music and I found Endtroducing to be captivating when I discovered it a few years after it’s release. It is otherworldly and rich – a very rewarding listen.

The Source featuring Candi Staton – You’ve got the love

My fad for Britpop has moved into a fixation with club classics. This tune is ALL TIME. The vocal is stunning, making the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end whenever I hear it.

Ricardo Villalobos – Fizheuer Zieheuer

I wanted to post something completely different from yesterday. This is a huge dance tune. It is relentless and hypnotic and I have found it to be spellbinding in recent days.

Fatboy Slim and David Byrne feat. Charmaine Clamor – Walk like a woman

This is taken from Here lies love,  a concept album made in collaboration between Fatboy Slim and David Byrne (of Talking Heads). The album charts the rise and fall of Imelda Marcos,  who was first lady of the Phillipines. As I previously mentioned, I am a sucker for songs that double as history lessons or more generally ones that have an interesting concept that makes me think.

The whole album is really stimulating and great in places. It is kind of an opera rapped up in sultry disco beats and features lots of great guest vocals, such as the one here from Charmaine Clamor.

DJ Marky and XRS – LK (It’s the way)

I wanted to post something upbeat and energetic as I am looking forward to what will be a busy and fun weekend. I am home for what will be a raucous wedding that will no doubt be full of laughter and high spirits.

This is also apt as it is an old school friend who is getting married and this brings back many happy memories from that period.

Saint Germain – Rose Rouge

This song is just plain cool. I love how it is smooth as silk yet rapid and relentless.

The Streets – Weak become heroes

Was reminded of this over the weekend by an old friend. It was a massive tune when I was at university, hearing it brings to my mind a house I used to live in and the guys I lived with.

I like it’s cool beat and strong imagery. It makes me think of heading out for a night on the tiles in a foreign city for the first time, taking in all the sights, sounds and smells.

Aside

Delorean – Stay Close

This is another uplifting dance tune by a band with a name that is linked to my home land. Perhaps there is a trend to be started? Can anyone suggest some Belfast-centric named bands? I will put my mind to it.

The track is a euphoric slice of summer and it sped my journey home this evening. I also love the fact it was released on Mushroom Pillow Records.

Manix – Feel real good

Classic early 90’s raver. I imagine it was a fun and interesting time to be young.

Aside

Pete Heller – Big Love

What is it about summer and good weather that draws you to classic house music? This is one of my very favourites of the genre. I am sure I will post a few others before autumn rolls around.
