Luke Million* – Arnold

I’m not really sure what to say about this! This is strange and a more than a little kitschy but at the same time very infectious. Despite being released fairly recently it has a timeless catchy, disco sound with a bizarre video to match.
Luke Million is an Australian DJ (I seem to have posted a lot of Antipodeans recently) who is part of a disco collective called The Swiss.
I have been enjoying a relaxing couple of days at my parent’s house. It’s been nice to take it easy before really getting into gear for my move to Dublin. Still lots to do but I’m not thinking about that just at the moment!
Down, up, down, up, down. Come on, more energy…

JX* – There’s nothing I won’t do

Classic 90’s dance! If you are of the same vintage as me (and even if not) hearing this must bring a smile to your face. So full of energy, it’s a perfect start to a sunny weekend. It has also whet my appetite for “cream classics”. Look out for a few more on coming Fridays.

Strangely, this also became something of an anthem that my roommate and I shared in California.I think the upbeat and slightly ironic tone struck a perfect chord with me then. I kind of wish I could rediscover a little of that zeal just at the moment.

Wham! – I’m your man (GPF)

Sorry for late post, I’ve been MIA at a family reunion for the past 36 hours.

The event culminated in a big, wedding style shindig. There was a wedding band that was trashy and glorious in just about equal parts. They played this at one point and I was unable to fight my inexplicable weakness for Wham! and George Michael.

This track and video (hello black leather gloves!) couldn’t be more perfectly 80’s.

But where we’re going baby, there ain’t no such word as no…

Whitney Houston* – I wanna dance with somebody (GPF)

It’s Friday again (thanks goodness). That means another cheesy, upbeat tune. A colleague reminded me of Whitney this week and was talking about seeing her in concert last year. Wow! What an amazing voice. Also a very pleasingly kitschy and perfectly 80’s video here. I hope you have a great weekend.

Phil Collins* – Easy Lover (GPF)

Another Friday, another guilty pleasure. There is something completely naff about Phil Collins but at the same time utterly irresistible.

R.Kelly* – Bump n’ grind

As I mentioned yesterday my intention is to make Thursdays about bands that are new to the blog. On Fridays I will be posting some guilty pleasures. Now that I have spent a year meticulously gaining credibility by steadfastly posting esoteric bands I feel that I can afford to lighten up a little. The songs will be party tunes that I decided not to post last year because they are too naff, profane or shameful but that I actually quite like.

Bump n’ Grind, much to my surprise, turned out to be something of an anthem during a year I spent in California. I mostly heard and enjoyed it ironically, but not wholly. R.Kelly by all accounts is a douche bag but he knows how to put together a pop song. Also, this may have the most hilarious intro ever!

My mind’s tellin’ me nnnooo but my body, my body’s telling me yeeahusss. Baby. I don’t want to hurt nobody, but there is something that I must confess………..

Dexy’s Midnight Runners – Come on Eileen

Was at a old friend’s wedding tonight and so I wanted to post something suitably cheesy in that spirit and this was one of the songs played that stuck in my mind.

Le Kid – Mercy Mercy

I was unsure whether to post this or not. In the end I went for it as I want this blog to be an accurate reflection of what I am currently listening to. Even if, without doubt, I will look back at this and cringe. And I have to (guiltily) admit that I have been listening to this today. A lot. It is just so damn infectious.

It is fun though. I was going to have to embrace my kitsch side sooner or later. And this is kitsch in spades. An added bonus is the video which is camp-tastic. The Pet Shop Boys would be proud of it!

Enjoy…
