Luke Million* – Arnold

I’m not really sure what to say about this! This is strange and a more than a little kitschy but at the same time very infectious. Despite being released fairly recently it has a timeless catchy, disco sound with a bizarre video to match.
Luke Million is an Australian DJ (I seem to have posted a lot of Antipodeans recently) who is part of a disco collective called The Swiss.
I have been enjoying a relaxing couple of days at my parent’s house. It’s been nice to take it easy before really getting into gear for my move to Dublin. Still lots to do but I’m not thinking about that just at the moment!
Down, up, down, up, down. Come on, more energy…

Alexander Holland* – The Best of Me (NAT)

This is just so upbeat and full of energy it I find it irresistibleI love how it melds together a modern house sound with a classic disco flavour. It also matches my mood as I prepare to leave London tomorrow. I’ve moved beyond feeling sad to be leaving to being excited for the new challenge that awaits me in Dublin.
Alexander Holland is a DJ hailing from (to quote Resident Advisor) “the great city of Adelaide, Australia, with it’s meager but passionate wine loving population of 1 million.”
Best of me? I’m gonna get the best of you…

The Temper Trap* – Fader

This is a little light but full of energy and quite fun. It came on my MP3 player this morning on my way to work and it has been stuck in my head all day.
The Temper Trap are and Australian indie band who make radio-friendly (should that now be Youtube-friendly?) tunes.

Crowded House – Weather with you

This is another one of the earliest songs I can remember hearing. I loved it before I had any real idea of music as a wider concept, before I began to intellectualise it, idolise it, before I became pretentious.

I am not sure why but it came into my head this week for the first time in years. So I have been listening to it over and over and feeling like I am 11 years old again. I really enjoy feeling a connection with my younger, more naive self. Sometimes it feels as though he never existed.

The lyrics are still an inscrutable mystery to me, but I like to think they are profound and there are some subtle but excellent guitar riffs and vocal harmonies to listen out for.

There’s a small boat made of china going nowhere on the mantelpiece. Do I lie like a lounge room lizard or do I sing like a bird released?

Sorry about the gash video, it was the best I could find.

The Avalanches – Since I left you

I remembered this recently and it has been a long while since I heard it. It is perfectly sunny and upbeat. It is a nice sentiment in the song. Meeting someone that stimulates the discovery of worlds so new.

Since I met you I’ve found a world so new…

Cloud Control – There’s nothing in the water we can’t fight

I had a musical obsessive moment recently. This song was playing in a store and I thought it was pretty good so I went and asked one of the chaps behind the counter what it was. He just looked at me blankly and shrugged so I wrote down some of the lyrics and thankfully my trusty friend Google knew what it was. I have found it to be stuck in my head for the past few days.

Miami Horror – Holidays

These guys are quite a recent find and I have to confess to not knowing much about them, other than they are Australian (I seem to be hearing a lot from down under of late).

This song is a breezy potential summer anthem, even if the video is somewhat surreal.

The Bamboos – You ain’t no good

I discovered these guys quite recently. They are a funk/soul band from Melbourne, Australia. Have been really enjoying their album “4”. I imagine they would be fun live and I will be keeping my eyes open for a show in London in 2011.
