This is a wonderful slice of upbeat, joyous African music from South African legends Dark City Sisters.

“Don’t Look Back ” is a song written by Blues singer-songwriter John Lee Hooker and released as a single in 1964. Morrison and Hooker also dueted it on a subsequent recording. Perhaps don’t look back is sentiment we should all adopt.
It has been too long since I posted any world music so I spent the weekend doing some research. Look out for some more choices over the coming days.
Mahlathini and The Mahotella Queens are from Soweto in South Africa and I love their classic, pure and joyous African sound.
Mahlathini and the Mahotella Queens:
This came onto my MP3 player this weekend for the first time in a while and still sounded amazing. I was surprised I hadn’t posted it already.
I still remember hearing it for the first time and the opening leaving me utterly speechless. The opening line must be one of my all time favourites, full of mysticism and longing just like the album to which is gives it’s name.
If I ventured in the slipstream, between the viaducts of your dream…
Some classic soul to finish up the week. I don’t know too much about these guys having discovered them via Mr. Fine Wine but the track is killer.
I stumbled across this classic track by Aretha this week. I hadn’t heard it before but it’s pretty great. The easy power of her voice still makes me sit up and take notice even after all these years.
Soul classic from The Chiffons to start the week. It doesn’t get much better than this. Pure pop magic.
