David Bowie – Sound and Vision

I heard this last week and it reminded me that it’s been too long since I posted some classic David Bowie. It is taken from 1977’s Low and I just love its languid sound.

The Beach Boys – God Only Knows

I found myself listening to Pet Sounds again recently. Even after all this time, and I can’t begin to think how many listens I still find it utterly staggering. Those melodies contrasting with the undercurrent of melancholy take my breath away.

Liza Flume* – Poison | (NAT)

I saw Irish singer Liza Flume support Linnea Olsson at The Workmans Club a few weeks ago.

I enjoyed the simplicity of her music. As here, there was very little instrumentation or frills of any kind. She used looping created a infectious sound that I found rather hypnotic.

Lady* – Get Ready

I discovered Transatlantic duo Lady (a rather search engine unfriendly name!) a few weeks ago via the excellent Far From Cyan blog. This is fierce, in a good way.

Gregory Porter – Be good (Lion’s song)

The day after the weekend before. I am feeling fragile and not a little jaded but I had a great few days in London. It has had a restorative effect on me.

Gregory Porter is an American Jazz singer. His track Illusion was one of my favourites of last year. This is taken from his 2012 album of the same name.

Radiohead – Karma Police

I have to confess that for a very long time I never really “got” Radiohead. There relentlessly bleak music just wasn’t what I was about. Probably the fact that they were on the 437th artist that I posted probably illustrates this rather neatly.

However, recently I have increasingly been enjoying their music. For the first time (potentially ever) I found myself listened to them by choice. I am unsure if this is a good thing or a bad thing!
