Lady* – Get Ready

I discovered Transatlantic duo Lady (a rather search engine unfriendly name!) a few weeks ago via the excellent Far From Cyan blog. This is fierce, in a good way.

Gregory Porter – Be good (Lion’s song)

The day after the weekend before. I am feeling fragile and not a little jaded but I had a great few days in London. It has had a restorative effect on me.

Gregory Porter is an American Jazz singer. His track Illusion was one of my favourites of last year. This is taken from his 2012 album of the same name.

Radiohead – Karma Police

I have to confess that for a very long time I never really “got” Radiohead. There relentlessly bleak music just wasn’t what I was about. Probably the fact that they were on the 437th artist that I posted probably illustrates this rather neatly.

However, recently I have increasingly been enjoying their music. For the first time (potentially ever) I found myself listened to them by choice. I am unsure if this is a good thing or a bad thing!

Lenny Kravitz* – It ain’t over ’till it’s over | (GPF)

This was inexplicably and immovably on my mind all of last weekend. It’s funny how that happens sometimes. It actually doesn’t sound that bad, the smoothness somewhat makes up for the cheesiness. I can’t believe it was released in 1991!

Oasis – Supersonic

This classic from my youth came on the radio over the weekend and I found myself singing the lyrics out loud without realising it, almost as a reflex. It just seems to have that effect on me and is certainly one of the more anthemic Britpop song I can think of.

It is taken from the 1994 classic Definitely Maybe which once upon a time took pride of place in my nascent cassette collection. How times change.

Hugh Masekela – Market Place

I wanted to post something mellow to match my frame of mind. I am very much looking forward to not working this week. I am going to enjoy a few quiet days before spending a few less relaxing days over the weekend in London.

I really like this track from South African trumpeter Hugh Masekela. It’s smoothness nicely contrasts the incendiary track Mahlalela which I featured a few weeks back. Also, it’s been too long since I posted any World Music.
